Pools.trade Dominates, So Why Hasn't It Yielded a High Market Cap Meme Coin Yet?

Read this article in 12 Minutes
The platform currently lacks traffic, but what it lacks is a narrative that is sufficiently interesting and free from "insider trading" controversies.

Before the official launch of Pools.trade's frontend, the "Pioneer P" had already made a move.

At 12:00 a.m. on August 5, the countdown to Pools.trade's launch on Uniswap began.

During the countdown, the community discovered the early deployment contracts of the platform and directly traded the already issued tokens on-chain. By the time Pools.trade's frontend officially opened, these early contracts had already generated over $150 million in trading volume.

In response, Uniswap founder Hayden Adams stated that the early surge in trading forced the team to readjust the website and data indexing, simultaneously testing contracts and the final version, leading to a disruption in the planned launch schedule.

The panic displayed by DeFi veterans like Uniswap may seem somewhat makeshift, but the trading data is undeniably significant. According to Dune Analytics, on August 5 alone (the frontend was officially launched on the morning of August 6, with most of the trading data generated before the frontend went live), Pools.trade had a trading volume of $99.1 million, accounting for approximately 54.2% of the total trading volume on the Robinhood Chain token issuance platform that day, far exceeding the previous two-week chart-topper, Pons.

pools.trade: Uniswap's Token Issuance Platform Launched in Person

Project Introduction

Pools.trade is Uniswap Labs' token issuance platform launched on the Robinhood Chain, positioned by the official team as a Meme Coin launchpad where users can issue coins, discover new coins, and trade on the same page. Each token has a fixed total supply of 1 billion, eventually entering Uniswap v4 with liquidity permanently locked.

Tokens issued by Pools.trade are immediately integrated into the Uniswap web interface, wallets, Launches page, and Trading API, reaching MetaMask, Ledger, and multiple DEX aggregators. Compared to new platforms that start from scratch to find trading entry points, Pools.trade already had Uniswap's existing users and distribution channels upon launch.

Two Issuance Models

Pools.trade offers two modes of issuance: Instant Launch and Crowd Launch, which are:

· Instant Launch: Immediate coin launch. After the creator fills in the name, ticker, image, and description, the token is directly open for trading. The price fluctuates with market buying and selling, without a minimum market cap requirement and fixed end time;

· Crowd Launch: Utilizes a four-hour issuance window. Participants submit budgets in advance, and orders are gradually filled in the remaining time, with earlier participants usually receiving a lower price. After the issuance ends, the token's Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV) reaches $10,000 to enable trading; if the threshold is not met, all participating funds are refunded. This model is mainly used to reduce the impact of bot front-running and wash trading.

Platform's Key Feature: Fees are only a quarter of Pons and Flap

Pools.trade does not charge additional launchpad fees; it collects a 0.25% fee from the Uniswap v4 pool for each transaction. After the creator enables revenue sharing, 0.05% goes to the creator, and 0.20% is automatically reinvested in a permanently locked liquidity pool, with Uniswap Labs not involved in revenue sharing.

The transaction fees for Pons and Flap are both 1%. Based on a $10 million trading volume, Pools.trade generates $25,000 in fees, with $5,000 going to the token creator; Pons generates $100,000 in fees, and considering a creator's share of 70%, the token creator can receive $70,000.

Pools.trade reduces transaction costs and keeps most of the fees in liquidity; Pons and Flap, on the other hand, provide token creators with higher income. The former is more conducive to trading, while the latter provides a more direct incentive to token creators.

Only Two Tokens Have a Market Cap Over a Million Dollars, Early Minting Raises Fairness Concerns

Compared to the significant token issuance quantity and platform trading volume, Pools.trade has not seen high market cap meme coins. As of now, Pools.trade has only two tokens with a market cap above $1 million, namely FRONG and POOLS; additionally, there are tokens with a market cap above $400,000 such as HOOKR, UNIPEG, CHWDR, and PosM.

FRONG, Reaching a Market Cap of $18 million at One Point

FRONG is currently the highest-valued Meme listed on Pools.trade. At midnight on August 5, Uniswap officially announced the launch of Pools.trade with a 24-hour countdown and released a video of a frog "playing in the water" by the pond.

After the tweet was posted, the community quickly noticed the frog Meme coin—FRONG—issued through an early contract on Pools.trade and considered it the platform's mascot concept coin. Influenced by this FOMO sentiment, FRONG's market cap briefly reached $18 million.

However, FRONG had already been minted through a contract before Uniswap initiated the launch countdown for Pools.trade. On-chain records show that FRONG was minted and a liquidity pool was established as early as July 30, five days before Uniswap's countdown announcement. The relevant contract was even deployed about three weeks early without any indication of its relationship with Uniswap or Pools.trade.

As this time gap was discovered, questions arose regarding the fairness of FRONG's distribution, and its market cap swiftly fell from its peak. Even with Pools.trade officially launching at midnight yesterday, FRONG did not garner community support, and its market cap has remained below $10 million, currently standing at $7 million.

POOLS, Surpassing a Market Cap of $4 million at One Point

The second-highest valued token on Pools.trade, POOLS, had a similar situation to FRONG, both being Meme coins that were minted before the platform's official launch.

In contrast to FRONG's "frog mascot" narrative, POOLS has a more direct narrative logic—its name is the same as the platform, so the community sees it as the Pools.trade concept coin. Its market cap surpassed $4 million at one point but then dropped to around $1.8 million.

While FRONG relied on the "frog mascot" narrative and POOLS on the platform's namesake, both were expected to have higher market cap valuations. However, due to the controversy surrounding early minting leading to "insider trading," community FOMO sentiment plummeted, and their market caps are both below $10 million.

At the core of Meme coins is the belief that everyone is willing to trust that they are all on a level playing field. Once fairness is called into question, even the best token narrative struggles to organically spread within the community. Perhaps this is why Pools.trade, despite its impressive data, has yet to achieve a high market value as a Meme coin.

However, with Uniswap backing Pools.trade and Robinhood Chain being one of the most talked-about blockchains in the current Meme frenzy, the platform is not lacking in traffic but rather in a sufficiently engaging narrative that avoids any "rug pull" controversies. It may not be long before Pools.trade witnesses its first "pump and dump."
