Russia may ban cryptocurrency payments

Russia's central bank and FSB are preparing to ban the use of cryptocurrency to pay for goods and services, sources said, according to the Russian satellite news agency, BlockBeats. The initiative is aimed at fighting crime in the virtual currency sector, but antonina levashenko, director of the russia-oecd centre at the Russian school of economics and public administration, said the measure would not eliminate the grey areas but would allow cryptocurrency transactions to be exempted from taxation. The central bank did not confirm that it was preparing the draft law but said it was ready to support it. Russia's finance ministry took a similar position. (financial union)
