On-chain Migration of Precious Metal Assets: Amid RWA Narrative Heating Up, WEEX Doubles Down on Gold and Silver Tokenization Trading Layout

Read this article in 9 Minutes
As blockchain infrastructure gradually matures, the on-chain representation of Real World Assets (RWA) is transitioning from concept to reality, with precious metals being seen as one of the most emblematic early use cases.

Over the past period, the global financial market has been experiencing continued volatility in an environment woven with high interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and macro uncertainty. In contrast to the volatility of risk assets, the market has seen a reassessment of stable value assets and real asset pegged targets. Precious metals such as gold and silver, as one of the oldest historical value storage assets, have once again become a significant focus for institutions and investors.

Unlike previous cycles, this round of focus has not only stayed within the traditional financial system but has started to extend into the crypto market. As blockchain infrastructure gradually matures, the on-chainization of Real World Assets (RWA) is moving from concept to practice, where precious metals are considered one of the most representative early-stage implementation scenarios.

From "Physically Holding Gold and Silver" to "On-chain Mapping," Precious Metals Are Undergoing Structural Changes

In the traditional financial system, precious metal investments have long faced issues such as restricted trading hours, fragmented liquidity, and high settlement and custody costs. Even participation through ETFs and other financial instruments still relies on specific market periods and struggles to be uniformly managed with other assets.

The emergence of precious metal tokenization is fundamentally not a reshaping of the attributes of gold and silver but an upgrade to the trading form and market structure. By anchoring physical gold and silver to on-chain tokens at a 1:1 ratio, the related assets can enter the crypto market system that operates 24/7, demonstrating new possibilities in price discovery efficiency, liquidity, and composability.

The emergence of precious metal tokenization does not change the value attributes of gold and silver but, through on-chain mapping, integrates them into a crypto market system that operates 24/7. This means that the price of precious metals is no longer passively reflected within a limited trading window but can continuously undergo price discovery and trade matching in the global market.

Using the example of the matured tokenized gold projects PAX Gold (PAXG) and Tether Gold (XAUt) launched on the WEEX VEX trading platform, the core value lies not in the "decentralization narrative" but in providing precious metals with a higher-frequency, more transparent, and easier-to-participate trading form. The tokenized silver project SLVON further extends this logic to the realm of precious metal ETFs, enabling traditional financial assets to participate in global trading in digital form.

Industry insiders generally believe that the emergence of such assets is a relatively manageable risk and low cognitive cost as RWA enters the crypto market.

WEEX: Building a Complete 7×24-Hour Trading Scene for Precious Metal Tokens

As RWA assets gradually enter the on-chain market, the positioning of trading platforms is also changing. Platforms are no longer just "asset onboarders," but they need to strike a balance between asset selection, trade structure design, risk control, and user awareness.

The WEEX VcTrade platform recently announced the launch of spot and contract trading for tokenized gold PAXG, XAUt, and the tokenized silver ETF project SLVON, covering various trading scenarios to provide users with a more complete selection of precious metal asset trading.

Unlike the onboarding of a single asset, the core of WEEX's current layout is to systematically introduce precious metal stable value assets and incorporate them into a 7×24-hour trading system. Through the combination of spot and contract trading, users can not only participate in precious metal price fluctuations at any time but also engage in more flexible risk management and strategy adjustments amid market changes.

WEEX Co-Founder and Chief Security Officer Ethan has pointed out in public discussions that RWA is not a short-term narrative but a long-term project with very high demands on the trading infrastructure. "When real-world assets enter the on-chain market, the trading time shifts from a 'limited period' to '24/7 operation,' and the platform needs to have a more stable system architecture and more mature risk control mechanisms to handle the continuous trading demand for such assets."

In his view, a trading platform should play the role of a neutral infrastructure provider in the RWA process, rather than simply pursuing asset quantity expansion. This also means that when introducing real-world assets such as precious metals, the platform needs to maintain a balance between liquidity, trade continuity, and risk control.

Starting from Precious Metals, RWA Asset Trading is Moving towards Diversification

From a longer-term perspective, the tokenization of precious metals is not the endpoint but more like a "stress test" for RWA assets entering the crypto market. The trading activity, user participation, and risk performance are providing reference samples for the subsequent on-chainization of more real-world assets.

Based on this assessment, the WEEX VcTrade platform is also advancing the construction of a precious metal zone and may gradually launch more precious metal token projects in the future to expand the trading coverage of real-world assets.

From the industry's perspective, as the number of RWA-related products gradually increases, the market's focus will no longer be solely on "whether the assets are on-chain," but will instead shift to trade depth, liquidity quality, and risk management capabilities. This also places higher demands on trading platforms.

Amid the evolving crypto market, what precious metal tokens represent may not be a short-term hype asset, but a transitional form connecting traditional finance with the crypto market. The infrastructure development surrounding this form is becoming an important direction for trading platform differentiation.
