Ready to buy a Bitcoin domain name? How do I get a.sats domain name?

Read this article in 18 Minutes
This article takes.sats domain name casting as an example to take you through the complete BTC NFT casting process.
Title: BTC NFT Casting Guide
Source: Wang Yishi's blog
Wang Yishi, founder of OneKey

In this article, I will take the.sats domain name casting as an example to walk you through the complete BTC NFT casting process. We'll explain that a little bit in the extended readingLightning network,The Taproot addressAnd  Ordinals agreement.

What preparation is required

1. Download  Xverse  Wallet, which we will use later to store NFT, because it correctly identifies Ordinals protocol assets.

2. Download  Alby  The browser add-on wallet for handling Lightning Internet transactions is a pretty good experience.

3. Prepare your own. Account number. We're gonna use it to pull Lightning Network's BTC into our own wallet.

An important prerequisite for receiving BTC NFT is that your wallet supports the Taproot address format, which usually starts with   bc1p  First of all, this is an important way to identify.

This is by far the most handy combination I use myself, if you're used to using other wallets such as  Bluewallet,Muun  And so on, that works as well.

So far,OneKey  Wallet does not yet support Taproot address and Lightning network, but I seeIt has been officially mentionedI expect it soon.

Do I need to run Bitcoin full node

1. No, there are many alternative casting tools that are free of joints.

2. However, if you want to get more involved in the BTC Ordinals NFT market with minimal fees, I suggest you go.Bitcoin Core  Download the latest wallet.

3. After downloading, modify the Settings as shown below. Do not trim the nodes or you will lose synchronization, Ordinal is going back to the first transaction in the whole BTC block.

4. At the same time, it is better to put the BTC block data into the external hard disk with at least 1TB capacity, otherwise it will take up a lot of your computer space. At present, the data of the whole BTC network is about 500GB.

5. If you're not interested in building your own node and just want to get a quick Mint, skip here and skip the Bitcoin Core wallet.

Is Sparrow's wallet necessary?

1. No, that was a month ago.

2.Sparrow is a great wallet, but it cannot display NFT, and the operation threshold is high. It is not recommended for entry-level users, but casual for advanced users.

Give money to your wallet

1. Get your Alby wallet ready. I won't go into details here.

2. Transfer some BTCS from your OKX to Alby, not more, at most several hundred dollars of equivalent BTCS is enough. Network choice: BTc-Lightning Network.

3. Then withdraw some BTC from your OKX to Xverse, Xverse does not support lightning network, ordinary withdrawal is OK.

4. Now that you have BTCS in both wallets, they look something like this:

Select casting tools:

1.https://ordinalsbot.com/

2.https://gamma.io/

3.https://unisat.io/inscribe

In fact, casting NFT in BTC chain is not called Mint, it is called Inscribe, which means engraved. However, people in the ETH market are already familiar with Mint, so I will use Mint to refer to the process.

Currently, the best Mint tools are the above 3 tools. Now I will take Gamma as an example and lead you to create a.sats domain name.

.sats It is a project similar to ENS on the BTC network. There is no token of its own, no pre-mining, and casting is free. I didn't hoard.sats domain names and only minted a very small number (less than 20) to participate.

According to itdocumentThe casting is to engrave the following text on the BTC main net.

Well, how do I get them to be cast? Obviously, there's no way to transfer messages through BTC, right?

At this point, we can choose the casting tools mentioned above. They are nothing special, they just visualize the casting process of the BTC network and make it easier for users to get started.

Access  https://gamma.io/ordinals

Select Text text

Paste the text from the.stas document,Replace the name field with the domain name you want, such as abc.sats

Light touch to continue, choose the rate, generally we choose Higher fee to ensure the casting success as soon as possible.

Note that every time NFT is cast, Gamma will charge you about 5.7 knife service fee, which is relatively expensive. unisat will be cheaper and operate slightly differently. Anyway, we learned how to Gamma cast and then tried other tools on our own.

The next step is critical: the receiving address must be in Taproot format (starting with bc1p), or you may lose your NFT. In addition, it is better to fill in the email, Gamma will push the order information to you.

So, where to look at the Taproot address?

Remember the Xverse wallet we downloaded at the beginning of this article. As shown in the image below, tap button 1 to access the NFT panel, then tap button 2 to receive, select the Taproot address (beginning bc1p), and copy this address into the Gamma address bar above.

Follow the prompts to continue, you need to check the usage protocol below.

Then, Gamma generates the order. On this order page, you can see that there are two elements:

BTC amount receipt address

Follow the instructions on the page, transfer the correct amount to the corresponding address, make sure it is correct, and wait for Gamma casting to be completed.

Wait a little, usually 10-30 minutes (BTC networks require block validation), and you'll see BTC NFT in your Xverse wallet.

At this point, you have completed the casting of the.sats domain name NFT on the BTC network, which is easier than expected, right? Let's move on.

How do I know if a domain name is registered

You can use this informal API to query,https://api.sats.id/names/abc.sats

Replace the abc.sats at the end of the link with the domain name you want to register, such as 123.sats

You should get the following link:

https://api.sats.id/names/123.sats

If the message returned looks like this, the domain name is not yet registered:

Otherwise, it's already registered.

What is the use of Alby we downloaded earlier

1.Alby is a Lightning wallet that only supports lightning Internet transfers.

2. It's mentioned aboveordinalsbot  This tool, which supports payment using the lightning network, also supports batch casting.

3. You won't have to wait 20-30 minutes for confirmation from the network, so you can get the NFT you want faster.

4. After you learn how to use Gamma, try these more sophisticated tools to explore BTC NFT.

On the Lightning Network, Taproot and Ordinals agreements

Lightning Network

Lightning Network is a layer 2 protocol based on Bitcoin technology to speed up transactions and scalability. It eliminates the need to wait for miners to verify and package by creating multiple payment channels that enable users to make peer-to-peer transactions in real time, efficiently and at low cost. The network is similar to a digital wallet, in which users can create payment channels and deposit bitcoins, where they can conduct transactions with other users that do not need to be written into the blockchain. When a user closes the payment channel and withdraws bitcoin, the final balance is written to the blockchain.

The Taproot address

Taproot, a new address format for the Bitcoin network, is one of the latest upgrades. It uses a new address encoding method, which can provide better privacy, security and scalability. Taproot addresses can hide multiple public keys or scripts, so that only the public keys or scripts used in the transaction are displayed, which protects user privacy. It can also be used for many different transaction types, and transactions using Taproot addresses are typically smaller than traditional transactions, reducing transaction costs. In addition, Taproot addresses can reduce the use of scripts, reduce blockchain size and transaction complexity, and improve the scalability of the Bitcoin network.

Ordinals agreement

This is actually  Casey Rodarmor  Which uses ordinal theory to mark and track "registrations" -- data/content embedded in the blockchain:

An ordinal number is any number that defines a position in a series (for example, first, second, third). In the case of bitcoin, Ordinal is the unused transaction output (UTXO) of a particular Satoshi that contains a "registry" that contains content, such as text, images, or MP3s. Registered Satoshi are set up for special transactions so that users can identify and track them.

In fact, this solution was proposed on bitcoin forums back in 2012. Ordinals NFT has an interesting point in that they do not use Bitcoin's OP_RETURN field. This command allows the user to submit arbitrary data on the chain.

Taproot is also key because it loosens these requirements and removes data limits completely, so you could theoretically cast a 4MB NFT that takes up the entire block data space.
