We are excited to announce the next phase of Kava in 2022, the upcoming upgrade to the Kava 10 mainnet by establishing Kava as a powerful, scalable Layer-1 network and ecosystem that supports top-level DeFi products, This will mark the beginning of a bright future with unlimited potential for the Kava network.
Introducing the new Kava Network, a lightning-fast Layer-1 blockchain with a unique common-chain architecture that combines the speed and interoperability of the Cosmos SDK with the flexibility and developer support features of the Ethereum Virtual machine, or EVM.
So what is the Kava network, and why is Kava making this change at this point?
It is clear that the future of the blockchain industry is "multi-chain". In response to ethereum's inability to handle Web 3 throughput at scale, a number of "Alt Layer-1" blockchains have emerged in its place, each offering a different solution to the problem of transaction speed and scale.
Instead of replacing Ethereum, however, this led to a realisation that different networks might be better suited to meet the needs of a vertical domain. As developers, applications, and users track more opportunities and value, they carry their assets from chain to chain.
This multi-chain approach means that optimization for a specific set of developers or use cases is key. The Layer-1 blockchain needs to be able to provide specific value to the segment of developers and users it serves.
Kava has positioned itself as a layer-1 network that can be used alone to support widely used DeFi products, and thus understands the value of optimization in advance. In observing the emergence of multichain in the future, Kava saw a need for it to apply its optimization-driven model to provide more value to developers and users, unlocking huge growth potential in the process.

The new Kava Network is a highly optimized "common chain" network designed specifically to provide the two largest development architectures for the Web 3 ecosystem in one network.
Kava chose to build using the Cosmos SDK because at the time it was clear that the Ethereum architecture could not support a massively decentralized future. The Cosmos SDK allows for better scalability and unlocks access to the growing blockchain and app ecosystem.
However, Kava also recognizes that the Ethereum ecosystem and its developers will not simply be replaced. For the Layer-1 blockchain to succeed in building a true, well-used Web 3 application ecosystem, it must provide a smooth transition for developers and users who want to move their products or assets to the Web.
This is why the Kava network is implementing a common chain architecture, which features different chains for the EVM and Cosmos SDK development environments. Using the translation module, the two chains work seamlessly together to integrate the two most commonly used Web 3 ecosystems into a single network.
In the Kava network, the existing Kava blockchain will become the Cosmos Common Chain, while the Ethereum Common chain, currently under development, will be launched in May with an upgrade to the Kava 10 main network.
The two common chains operate seamlessly with each other, enabling developers to build in whatever environment they want without sacrificing access to users and assets in another environment.

The Kava network will use a unique common chain architecture to provide developers and users with the benefits of Cosmos and Ethereum
You can think of it as two hemispheres of the brain, one optimized for the Cosmos ecosystem developers and the other optimized for the Ethereum ecosystem developers. The translation module connects two different execution environments in a common chain, enabling them to work together seamlessly on a large scale.
This encapsulates two of the most commonly used execution environments in the industry in a single network. Two chains, one network. Ethereum will meet Cosmos through the Kava network's powerful, developer-optimized Layer-1 architecture.
The entire network will be powered by the Tendermint Consensus engine, secured by verators and Stakers, and governed by KavaDAO. In addition, an industry-first on-chain developer incentive model will drive significant growth through an open and transparent distribution process.
KavaDAO is a fully decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that governs the Kava network. KAVA Stakers and validators who help secure and run the network will be able to propose and vote on proposals affecting the KAVA network.
According to Messari. IO, the total TVL between Ethereum and Cosmos Ecology is more than $67.4 billion. However, there is currently no fully functional Layer-1 blockchain that allows developers to access both the development environment and its ecosystem within a single network.
The opportunity to combine these two ecosystems is enormous. According to industry portfolio tracker DappRadar, Ethereum has more than 4,000 active open source ecosystem developers and about 1,360 active dApps per month.
In the Cosmos Ecosystem, over 260 projects are being built on the Cosmos SDK, with 33 active Zones integrated with IBC, completing hundreds of thousands of cross-chain value transfers per day.
Opening a development hub that connects the two ecologies will create a lot of activity for the projects that make that connection happen, as well as more value for Cosmos and Ethereum and greater revenue opportunities for everyone.
Kava launched the Pioneer Program to introduce significant incentives to drive the rapid growth of Kava's network prior to the launch of the main network. 100,000KAVA will be awarded to protocols deployed to the KAVA network.
The Kava network will support the deployment of a closed set of protocol partners to the EVM common chain, which will stress test Kava's EVM compatibility and execution environment prior to public testing.
Prior to the release of the Kava Network mainnet, Kava will reward participants who test the common chain architecture. Participants will win prizes by experiencing the protocols and dApps that will be launched on the Kava network for themselves.
The public beta of the Ethereum Bridge will unlock ERC-20 assets and ERC-1155 assets on the Kava network.
The Kava network is officially complete and fully launched, with common chain architecture of Ethereum and Cosmos. Developers will be able to build seamlessly in EVM and Cosmos SDK execution environments, connecting the two largest decentralized ecosystems in the world.
Kava's online incentive program for on-chain DeFi and Web 3 developers releases substantial rewards for developers each year to facilitate rapid growth of the ecosystem.
Kava is evolving into a more open, scalable and optimized Layer-1 blockchain for Web 3 developers to build. By optimizing support for the two largest decentralized ecosystems, the Kava network is preparing for huge growth in the multi-chain future.
The Kava community looks forward to seeing you in the Alpha release. The new main network is coming soon, please keep an eye on Kava's official social media, and don't miss Kava's latest news and upcoming events.
Kava is a highly secure, lightening fast Layer-1 blockchain that combines two of the most commonly used permissive execution environments into a single, scalable, developer-optimized network.
