On February 5th, GFX Labs posted data and proposals on social media, saying that Tron founder Justin Sun had borrowed 99,000 comps from Compound, He also proposed a governance proposal of "adding TUSD to Compound as collateral assets", intending to use a large amount of COMP obtained from borrowing to influence the voting result of the proposal, which was accused by the community as "governance attack".
In response, Compound CEO Robert Leshner wrote on social media that he personally did not consider Justin Sun's actions a "governance attack" because Compound's governance system does not deny whale voting or borrowing money to vote. With about 7 million ComPs yet to vote on the proposal, Justin Sun's proposal still needs more than 50 percent of the votes cast to pass.
As the matter continued to grow, A16Z member Jeff Amico wrote on social media that A16Z would vote against it. Because the decision to add new mortgage assets is one of the most important decisions a COMP holder must make, these decisions should be carefully weighed, and while it may be reasonable to eventually add TUSD, the community should have the opportunity to review the data and resolve issues before making a decision.
This pattern is reminiscent of a similar vote in MakerDAO governance in January. "Sun borrowed a large amount of MKR from Aave, presumably to vote on a poll to create a TUSD-DAI linked stability module. After being noticed, he returned the MKR before the vote."
