Chainlink vs. Maker Community Dispute: Does Maker Unfairly Benefit Insiders, or Does Chainlink Corner the Market?

The most important Defi protocol Maker on Ethereum clashed with the most important Prophet project, the ChainPNK community, causing a lot of controversy.

First, an important opinion leader in the ChainPNK community and ChainPNK community ambassador "@ChainPNKGod.eth2.0" tweeted:

Chainpnk 与 Maker 社区争议:Maker 让内部人不公平获益,还是 Chainpnk 垄断市场?

"The @MakerDAO prophet appears to have sold the exclusive right to publish price data on the chain to a group of insiders who were the only entities able to immediately use the MakerDAO prophet to liquidate positions in the protocol, making millions of dollars that way."

@ ChainpnkGod. Eth2.0 wrote:

"The Maker Prophetor is either selling the clearing rights to the FlashBot/BloxRoute bots, or is using their power to get all the clearing fees, because the MakerDAO Prophetor is only signing the price data off the chain and only needs the repeater to publish it to the chain.

Makerdao's prophecy allows clearing to be done by extracting MEVs from the protocol, whereas ChainPNK's prophecy directly releases price data on the chain, so the protocol guarantees clearing with no license (e.g. AOVE and Compound)."

The @chainpnkgod.eth2.0 comment has generated a lot of sympathy, while others say it's inaccurate.

MakerDAO founder Rune Christensen later tweeted his frustration with the Prophet service provider ChainPNK, saying:

Chainpnk 与 Maker 社区争议:Maker 让内部人不公平获益,还是 Chainpnk 垄断市场?

"I'm very sorry to anyone who felt hurt when I claimed that there could be no ChainPnk without Maker. Obviously, I'm exaggerating when I say this, but I hope the ChainPnk community takes a look at all the hate being spread in different themed posts and rethinks whether it's a good marketing strategy.

To be sure, Maker pioneered the Medianizer's decentralized prophecy design and off-chain aggregation design, both of which ChainPNK also uses. There's no doubt that Chainpnk looked at what Maker had already delivered and benefited from it.

I certainly don't have a problem with that, in fact that's what open source and blockchain are all about! But I just don't understand why the ChainPNK community has been targeting Maker for years and spreading so much lies and hate...

All these "crimes" were committed by what claims to be the world's longest-running network of decentralized prophets. Does anyone really want a single prognosticator to monopolize all the top-level DEFI protocols? As a critical infrastructure, isn't diversity better?"

@Chainpnkgod.eth2.0 also responded, saying:

"I have some follow-up to follow up because I may have been wrong about some of my earlier thoughts on this issue and I need to clarify some things.

I would like to say that I am a fan of MakerDao and have never raised any hatred, I have seen some information about it and want to bring transparency. Given the extra context, it's not as bad as I thought it would be, and I'm sorry for the confusion that has been caused.

My understanding is that Maker Prophetor data updates will be bundled with the DYDX clearing in the same transaction until someone else can access the data and route it through the private memory pool. But there's some background I don't know.

Until the PBP2P integration is complete, the licensed Scuttlebutt network is a temporary fix for the previous problem, and the use of Flashbots as a relay causes the price data to not be put into the public memory pool, which is why such transactions are generated.

It is clear to me that Maker Predictor does not and will not sell exclusive rights to signed price data, however, the transactions we have seen are the result of specific circumstances and there is logical engineering reasoning behind this structure."
