The stage launch of Polkadot is about to enter another chapter. Let's take a look at what's going to happen as we get closer to the launch of parallel chain functionality and the auction and crowdlending behind it.

Launched about 10 months ago, Polkadot now includes the first four phases, with the last coming at the end of July last year. The Polkadot network is fully decentralized and permission-free. nowPhase Five The final phase of the launch of Polkadot begins.

Polkadot is a heterogeneous extensible multi-chain. In its short history, Polkadot has demonstrated a highly decentralized and inclusive system of Staking (anyone with 1 DOT can take part in Polkadot's Staking system and be rewarded), Staking seamlessly upgrading its core logic and open, functional governance. So far, however, it's just a single chain. This is about to change with the introduction of parallel chain functionality, and the ultimate vision of heterogeneous sharding systems is about to become a reality.

Last week Parity Technologies, the core team that developed the original implementation of Polkadot, released  Polkadot version 0.9"And took a big step forward. This version, now run by the vast majority of the Kusama network, includes the logic necessary to deploy parallel chains on the network. It also includes the final logic for running parallel chain slot auctions and the logic for crowdlending, which can be used to bid on crowdfunding auctions. Kusama has been upgraded to the logic included in this release (V9010), so now parallel chains are finally ready!

schedule

Polkadot  The Parallel Chain project is expected to start after two things happen:

First, there should be a full external audit of all new logic. Secondly, the Kusama Canary Network performs at least one successful auction involving multiple loans and implements at least one functional parallel chain to prove that the new logic is feasible.

The relevant audit has already begun and we expect it to be completed in the near future. The road to Kusama's launch has already begun and is expected to be completed in three steps over the next few days.

First, will be inDeploy Shell parallel chains on KusamaThe bill was just approved by the government today. A Shell parallel chain is an "empty" parallel chain that generates blocks but has no function other than upgradability. It has no concept of user account, Staking, governance, or balance. It doesn't even have a timestamp module to understand "time." Instead, all it does is listen for messages that relay chain governance authorizes it to upgrade. Upon receiving such a message, the Shell parallel chain will allow itself to upgrade to any new logic authorized by the relay chain. This is a temporary environment, as the first public interest parallel chain, with an ID of 1,000 (the first system parallel chain has an ID of 0). Deployment of Shell parallel chains on Kusama requires both governance motion and a referendum, which has all been approved today!

(PolkaWorld voted for the first time.)

The second step is to do an upgrade. In this case, governance will vote to upgrade the Shell parallel chain to the StateLine parallel chain. StateMine is an example of Polkadot's StateMint parallel chain in the Kusama network, which is a public interest parallel chain that can issue any asset that is fungible or not fungible. It is also a low-cost chain for holding and transferring local tokens (KSM/DOT) in the relay chain.

If the Shell parallel chain is running. After 24 hours without any problems, and the same upgrade has been successfully performed on the Westend test network, we will propose an upgrade motion. As with the initial deployment, the upgrade requires full governance motion and referendums.

The third step is to start the auction.Once the parallel chain of transactions and consensus is working well with the 900 verifiers in the Kusama network, the auction will begin! We've tested it on the Rococo test net! After seeing that StateMine is up and running, we can be confident that all third-party team chains will be up and running as well.

Currently, most KSMs are locked in Kusama's Staking system, and cannot be transferred without 7 days notice. As a result, the Kusama website will announce the start date of the first auction, as well as the expected schedule of further auctions, one week in advance. At present, the Kusama network is expected to be carried out. Five auctions, each spaced seven days apart. If no major problems are found, further auctions can follow. After the successful completion of the first sale of Kusama, we hope that the sale of Polkadot will take place in the near future. After the final parameters of the auction are determined, they will be published together with the auction schedule.

In the future

The next two months will focus on reliability, refactoring, and performance. Currently, it is intended to limit trading volumes to a conservative upper limit to minimize the chance of any systemic issues arising from the current unoptimized implementation. Instead of performing around 2,000 milliseconds of work in each block, the network allows only 500 milliseconds, reducing the effective transaction volume by more than 75%. As the code updates rapidly and becomes more robust, these artificial restrictions will be lifted and transactions will increase toward the theoretical limit.

After this period of development, in addition to the functionality originally envisioned, there are also targetedThree new features for Polkadot: Parathreads, off-chain XCMP and Spree. While all three aspects of the work will be done simultaneously, due to the complexity of the function, Parathreads will probably come out with the first version, and then Spree, due to its complexity, will come out at the end.

About & have spentParathreads  A lot of great articles have been written about the functionality of... like this oneBoca Parallel Threads: Parallel Chains of Pay As You Go. In short, ParathRead are pay-as-you-go parallel chains that do not require parallel chain teams to win parallel chain slot auctions (or to be accepted as parallel chains of the public interest), but rather the parallel chain code can directly pay for each block it wishes to write. If a parallel chain rarely needs to write blocks (such as an Oracle chain) or only writes blocks in a specific period of time, then it is very attractive to write their blocks without having to win a 6 month slot.

Off-chain XCMP  Is an upgrade to the base XCMP released in the 0.9 series. While basic XCMP allows messages to be passed between parallel chains by message data over a relay link, off-chain XCMP achieves the same purpose when routing data directly between collectors in two parallel chains. This means that the relay chain is no longer a bottleneck for messaging and makes it highly scalable, but still retains the same level of security and decentralization.

Finally, Spree (also known as Secure Protected Runtime Execution Enclaves Secure Runtime Execution areas) is a feature that allows the same logic to be securely and evenly sharded across all parallel chains. This allows parallel chains of business logic or governance mechanisms that do not trust each other to interact. Using this feature, you can move tokens between unknown chains,This capability can be achieved using NFTs to maintain their properties as they migrate between chains, or even to share smart contracts.
