Mitsubishi UFJ and Recruit co., a Japanese Internet giant, will launch a digital currency, Coin, this year that can be used for restaurant reservations, payment and other scenarios

BlockBeats - Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (FG) will start offering digital currency "Coin" in the second half of this year, Japanese media reported on July 14. The first company to jointly operate the coin is Recruit Co. LTD. (Recruit), a Japanese integrated Internet company, which was founded in 1990 as a recruitment company and gradually expanded its business into real estate, wedding, education, tourism, catering, beauty, second-hand car and other fields related to consumer life.

Mitsubishi UFJ reached an agreement with Recruit Inc. in October to jointly fund a digital-currency operation. Once the service is launched, Coin is expected to be available on Jalan, a travel booking site, and Hot Pepper Gourmet, a restaurant booking site. Coin has a value of "1Coin=1 yen" and can be used for payment or converted into cash and returned to a bank account. Remittances from one person to another are also expected.
