BlockBeats news decided to lift the ban on Telegram, according to a statement issued by The Russian authorities on June 18. Russia's communications, Information Technology and Mass Media regulator, Roskomnadzor, has now officially lifted a two-year ban on Telegram.
In an official statement, Mr Roskomnadzor said authorities had reached an agreement with Russia's attorney-general to lift restrictions on Telegram. Roskomnadzor said regulators praised Telegram CHIEF Executive Pavel Durov's willingness to fight terrorism and extremism. The statement was apparently in response to a recent statement by Durov that his Telegram team had been actively fighting terrorism and extremism while ensuring users' privacy.
Telegram's chief executive noted in a June 4 post that the company was blocking thousands of public statements each month that encouraged violence. Every month, Durov writes, Telegram team blocks thousands of attempts to publicly incite violence and terror. "... Telegram has developed a system to prevent global terrorism while ensuring the privacy of communications, in line with Telegram's privacy policy."
