Reporter:The people's bank of China has long been working on fiat currencies and has conducted pilot tests in some cities that are closed internally. What is the significance of issuing legal tender? How is the testing going? When is it expected to be officially released?

Yi:The digital economy is an increasingly important driver of global economic growth. The research and development and application of legal tender are conducive to effectively meeting the public's demand for legal tender under the conditions of digital economy, improving the convenience, security and anti-counterfeiting level of retail payment, and promoting the rapid development of China's digital economy.

The people's bank of China (pboc) started the research of legal digital currency earlier. In 2014, a special team was set up to conduct special research on issues such as digital currency issuance framework, key technologies, issuance and circulation environment, and relevant international experience. At the end of 2017, with approval, the people's bank of China organized some strong commercial Banks and relevant institutions to jointly develop the digital RMB system (DC/EP). On the premise of adhering to the two-tier operation, cash (M0) substitution and controllable anonymity, DC/EP has basically completed the top-level design, standard formulation, functional research and development, joint adjustment test and other work.

At present, the research and development of digital currency work follow the steady, safe and controllable, the principle of innovation, practical, first in chengdu, shenzhen, suzhou, male, and the future of winter scene internally closed pilot test, to test the theory of reliability, system stability, availability, process, convenience, applicability and risk control.

However, the current pilot tests are still routine work in the research and development process, which does not mean the official launch of the digital RMB. There is no timetable for the official launch.
