Ledger user, be careful. Some evildoers want to take away your backup seeds. If you see an AD for the Ledger Live Chrome extension on Google -- avoid it like the plague. About 1.4 million XRP have been stolen so far, according to xrplorer forensics, but all currencies are at risk.

Yesterday, XRP tracking browser xrplorer forensics tweeted a warning that more than 200,000 XRP had been stolen in the past month. This was because the fake Ledger Live Chrome extension stole the victims' backup mnemonics, thereby stealing their cryptocurrency. Its warning:

"The accounts have been emptied."

Xrplorer forensics only has data related to XRP. However, the agency warns that all cryptocurrencies are at risk:

"We don't have data in other currencies. Never download the hardware wallet tool directly from outside the official website. This screenshot shows a POST request from the extension."

More worryingly, a few hours later, the xrplorer forensics updated it again. The original figure was far from the real one. In fact, XRP had nearly 1.4 million stolen.

Based on further analysis, the team was able to infer that while most of the stolen XRP was still held in an account untouched, some funds had recently been sold on HitBTC. The exchange has been notified, but so far has not issued a formal response to the issue.

This problem happens not just to the XRP holder, but to all Ledger users. It's a wake-up call for everyone in the industry. With more than $4.5 billion worth of cryptocurrencies stolen in 2019 alone, you should be constantly learning the best ways to cope online.

Never use email links to access your wallet or exchange account. Do not download plug-ins easily unless you are 100% sure of their origin, and bookmark the relevant official pages to ensure the credibility of the transaction.

There are a lot of hackers and scammers in the cryptocurrency world who want to steal your money. Don't make it easy for them.
