Coindesk April 30The messageNasdaq, the stock exchange operator, has added another cryptocurrency index -- this time the world's third-largest.
The company announced on Monday that it will provide XRP "real-time" index information from May 1 through a partnership with Brave New Coin, a New Zealand blockchain data and research company.
Specifically, the XRP liquidity index (XRPLX) would provide a spot or reference rate for the price of XRP, denominated in us dollars and "based on the most liquid end of its market". "XRPLX only gets data from the most liquid exchanges (by volume and order depth)," Brave New Coin said in a separate statement.
Current reference exchanges for XRPLX include Bitfinex, Bitstamp, Poloniex and Kraken, and the Coinbase exchange will be included in the database in the next assessment.
Blockbeats understands that the new Data stream will be available on the Nasdaq Global Index Data ServiceSM, or GIDS. The index contains data from 2014 and is updated every five minutes, nasdaq said.
It added that the index was calculated on the basis of an "independent audit" of the Organisation of Securities Commissions principle.
Blockbeats has learned that nasdaq partnered with Brave New Coin for the first time earlier this year and added indices of bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH) to its global data service.
