According to a report by CFxMagazine, Japan's new cryptocurrency bill may allow the country's government to directly confiscate illegally acquired crypto assets, According to the daily News, the Ministry of Justice plans to amend the Encrypted detention Law and the 1999 Act on Punishment and Control of Organized Crimes, The revised law will make it mandatory to freeze any cryptocurrency linked to a crime. The current bill contains a list of the types of assets the government can seize, including physical property, monetary claims and liquid assets such as vehicles, supplies, equipment and machinery, but not cryptocurrencies. According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, the process of revising the bill, which is being drafted, is likely to be accelerated as the Ministry of Justice talks with the legislature next month and officials discuss how to retrieve criminals' cryptocurrency private keys.
