Early midterm election results are in: Democrats currently hold a significant advantage in voting for both chambers.

BlockBeats news, November 4 — The 2026 U.S. midterm elections are being held today, with voters deciding all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 seats in the Senate, a contest that will shape the balance of power for the remainder of President Trump's term.

As of around 8 p.m. Eastern Time on November 3, early results had begun to emerge: approximately 10 Senate races had been called, with Democrats holding 43 seats and Republicans 32, and Democrats having achieved a net gain of 1 seat; approximately 64 House races had been called, with Democrats at 45 seats and Republicans at 19.

Early voting and partial vote counts in eastern states showed strong Democratic performance, with Democrats temporarily leading in partial counts in Republican-held seats in Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas, but polling places in the West were still open or vote counting was ongoing, results in many key swing states had not yet come in, overall control remained undetermined, and the fiercely contested races could take days or even longer to be finally resolved.

If Republicans lose the 2026 midterm elections (especially if Democrats sweep both chambers), for Trump this would mean his legislative agenda would be significantly constrained for the remainder of his term, and he would enter "lame duck" status earlier: Democrats would hold committee investigative powers, launching oversight and even impeachment attempts over the Iran conflict, government spending, and family business interests (including crypto-related projects), while a Senate flip would also block his personnel and judicial nominations.

For the crypto market, this outcome is broadly negative but not devastating. The Trump administration had previously pushed forward stablecoin frameworks such as the GENIUS Act and appointed friendly regulators, but the key CLARITY Act (market structure bill) has already failed in a Senate procedural vote; if Democrats control Congress, relevant committees would likely be led by skeptics such as Elizabeth Warren, causing regulatory legislation to be further delayed or shelved, and intensifying scrutiny of the industry and Trump-related crypto projects, potentially exacerbating policy uncertainty and bringing price pressure in the short term.
