BlockBeats news, November 2, according to HTX market information, THORChain's native token RUNE has plummeted about 20% in the past 24 hours, once falling below $0.5.
It is worth noting that during the previous Bitget hacker incident, a large amount of funds were cross-chain swapped through THORChain, driving a surge in trading volume and fees, which the market viewed as a positive for protocol revenue, and RUNE rose accordingly. This decline is due to intensifying regulatory and security risks, with the market worried about whether THORChain can resolve the conflict between security and regulation while adhering to permissionlessness.
On-chain data shows that after the Binance theft, the hacker deposited approximately 185.1 million TRX and 3.83 million USDT through THORChain, totaling about 2,697 deposits, netting approximately $48.3 million through THORChain swaps, actually receiving about $42.7 million, with an intermediate loss of about $5.7 million due to fees and slippage. Meanwhile, the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, and IRS-CI jointly demanded that THORNode, RPC nodes, and DeFi service providers block fund flows related to North Korean hackers. THORChain co-founder Chad Barraford said node operators do not have more information than the public and have not explicitly committed to proactively blocking addresses. Another founder, JP Thor, publicly opposed cooperating with freezing, believing that the principles of decentralization and permissionlessness should be upheld.
