FBI identifies North Korean hacker group as responsible for over $6 billion Binance theft case.

BlockBeats news, November 1 - The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued an announcement stating that it has officially identified North Korea as responsible for the Binance security incident that occurred on October 29, 2026, involving virtual assets valued at over $6 billion. The FBI has designated this North Korean malicious cyber activity as "TraderTraitor."

The FBI stated that it has collaborated with the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) to track the related funds, discovering that the attackers primarily converted the stolen assets into Ethereum (ETH), and are expected to further launder money through DeFi protocols and instant exchange services.

The FBI, USSS, and IRS-CI call on THORNode operators, RPC node operators, instant exchange platforms, DeFi service providers, blockchain analytics firms, and other virtual asset service providers to block transactions with addresses used by TraderTraitor or fund flows derived from them. The announcement also published wallet addresses directly linked or closely related to the relevant North Korean hacking activities.
