Vitalik proposes 'digital minimalism': leveraging AI to reduce reliance on social media and the internet.

BlockBeats news, October 31: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin today published an article titled "Digital Minimalism," proposing that in the AI era, people should consciously reduce their reliance on social media, the mobile internet, and website interfaces, and take back control of their digital lives.

Vitalik shared three practices: first, reducing direct use of X and instead using Firefly to manage X, Bluesky, Farcaster, and Lens simultaneously, avoiding information interference caused by algorithmic recommendations; second, once keeping his phone in airplane mode by default for 100 consecutive days, connecting only via Wi-Fi, to reduce location data leakage and cultivate offline habits; third, reducing reliance on websites and web apps, switching to command-line tools for some on-chain operations, and using AI to lower the barrier to use.

Vitalik believes that websites and web apps carry privacy and security risks, while the development of local AI, offline applications, and modular tools enables users to operate computers in natural language and reduce reliance on complex platform interfaces. He calls this trend digital minimalism and believes that AI can not only improve people's efficiency in using the internet but may also make the internet unnecessary in more scenarios.
