Beating AI News Flash: Developer AI search product Devv has announced its shutdown. Founder Zhang Jiayuan stated that the team will shift all focus to the AI Agent collaboration platform Multica. Over the past three years, Devv has served millions of developers worldwide.
Devv launched in October 2023. At the time, large models were not yet good at searching the latest programming resources, and developers often had to switch back and forth between search engines and ChatGPT. Devv built a dedicated search index for programmers, integrating technical documentation and GitHub code, and then let AI provide answers directly. Within four weeks of launch, weekly active users reached 25,000. Later, it introduced a paid subscription, with first-month revenue exceeding $28,000.
But in just three years, AI search is no longer novel. ChatGPT and Claude can both access the internet to look up information, and coding Agents such as Claude Code and Codex have gone further—they can now look up information, write code, and run tests on their own, directly helping developers complete tasks. Devv's once-prized differentiated advantage has gradually become a basic capability of general AI tools.
In fact, Zhang Jiayuan revealed in May this year that Devv would be taken offline. The team had also previously tried the AI coding product DevCode, but ultimately chose to abandon it as well.
Now, they are placing their bet on Multica. This time, they are no longer doing search, nor building their own coding Agent; instead, they are enabling multiple Agents to collaborate like team members. You assign tasks, they execute and report progress, proactively provide feedback when problems arise, and submit the completed work to you for review.
From "helping programmers find answers" to "letting AI finish the work itself," Devv's exit happens to witness the changes in developer tools over these three years.
