BlockBeats news, October 27: Bitcoin Lightning Network wallet Blink Wallet has begun charging an inactivity fee on custodial accounts that have been inactive for 12 consecutive months, deducting $1 per month from each Bitcoin and USD balance until the balance reaches zero. A person familiar with the matter revealed that approximately 100,000 accounts meet the criteria for the fee, with combined balances exceeding $800,000, and the first round of deductions totaling about $45,000, though the relevant data has not yet been independently verified.
Blink stated that the move is intended to cover the infrastructure and compliance costs of inactive accounts and to encourage users to switch to self-custody. After users log back in, the deducted fees will be automatically refunded in full, and self-custody accounts are unaffected. (Bitcoin Magazine)
