BlockBeats news, October 26 - S&P Global announced that it has completed its acquisition of on-chain security firm OpenZeppelin. The transaction was first announced on September 17, 2026, with specific financial terms undisclosed. S&P Global stated that the acquisition will complement its digital asset risk assessment business, helping traditional financial institutions and on-chain financial enterprises evaluate smart contract and underlying technology risks.
Founded in 2015, OpenZeppelin provides smart contract security audits, secure development services, and open-source contract libraries. The company's security team has completed over 900 audit projects, identifying more than 10,000 vulnerabilities before product launches; its open-source smart contract library OpenZeppelin Contracts has supported cumulative value transfers exceeding $38 trillion, covering various major stablecoins and tokenized funds.
Following the acquisition, OpenZeppelin will continue to operate as an independent business unit, with founder Demian Brener remaining and reporting to Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings. The company stated that OpenZeppelin Contracts will continue to remain open-source, free, and publicly maintained.
S&P Global believes that as more financial assets and capital market operations move on-chain, smart contract and underlying technology risk assessment will become increasingly important. The acquisition aims to combine OpenZeppelin's on-chain security technology with S&P Global's institutional client network and global distribution capabilities to expand its digital asset risk assessment services.
