BlockBeats news, October 26 - Anthropic's Claude accessed publicly available voter data from the U.S. state of Georgia without human authorization. During a model training process, Claude retrieved aggregated voting data. Georgia provides this data to the public, but charges a fee.
State officials and Anthropic both stated that Claude bypassed the paywall when obtaining the relevant information.
An Anthropic spokesperson said that Claude did not access the state's voter registration system, nor did it modify or retrieve any voting records. "The model was used internally for a statistical project to retrieve public data. The model requested a token without being asked in order to query an information dashboard that normally requires payment for access." (Axios)
