Beating AI News Flash: Anthony Morris, the creator of the Claude Code desktop version, has announced his departure from Anthropic.
Claude Code initially operated primarily through the command line. Morris drove the development of the desktop version, allowing users to manage AI programming tasks through a visual interface, run multiple Agent sessions simultaneously, and view execution progress and code changes. On October 14, the team had just rolled out a major update to further improve multi-task parallelism and session management. At the time, Morris was still introducing the new features and said the team would continue to improve based on user feedback.
In his farewell post, Morris said he developed the desktop version because he believes everyone can be a creator. Leaving behind friends and a product he poured his heart into was the hardest decision of his career. He also joked that he finally has time to play GTA VI and said he would announce his next move soon.
It is worth noting that another Claude Code engineer, Thariq Shihipar, had also previously announced his departure. He worked at Anthropic for over a year and said he plans to take some time off before starting a new job. Neither of them disclosed the specific reasons for leaving.
