BlockBeats news, October 20 - Coinbase released a report titled "The Always-On Dollar," noting that in Q3 2026, the average hourly transfer amount of organic stablecoin transfer activity exceeded $400 million. Over the past 12 months ending July 31, approximately 73% of filtered stablecoin transfer volume occurred outside U.S. bank business hours, highlighting the demand for 24/7 stablecoin payments.
The report shows that adjusted quarterly stablecoin transfer volume has grown 4x since early 2023, reaching $891 billion in Q3 2026. At the current growth rate, this figure is expected to reach $1.5 trillion by the end of 2027.
The report also notes that sending $200 via USDC on the Base network saves approximately 86% in fees compared to traditional payment channels. Additionally, if 80% of global international transactions shifted to stablecoin payment networks, global annual GDP could increase by an additional $155 billion.
Looking ahead, the report suggests that stablecoins are poised to become critical payment infrastructure for the AI agent economy. McKinsey estimates that by 2030, $3 trillion to $5 trillion in global B2C commercial transactions will be facilitated by AI agents, and stablecoins can support micropayments between agents for task fees, API calls, and on-demand access to data and computing power.
