BlockBeats news, October 20 - According to Bloomberg, people familiar with the matter revealed that former Google CEO Eric Schmidt holds approximately 1% of Anthropic through early investments, and is expected to be one of the largest individual beneficiaries of the company's IPO. He invested tens of millions of dollars in Anthropic's Series A funding round in 2021, when the company was valued at $461 million. It is unclear whether he has sold any portion of his stake since then; both Schmidt and Anthropic declined to comment.
Investors last week believed that Anthropic's fair valuation is approximately $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion. Even at the company's recent valuation of $965 billion, Schmidt's stake would be worth nearly $10 billion. If the company's valuation reaches $2 trillion, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimates that his net worth would increase by about one-third, approaching $80 billion.
People familiar with the matter previously said that Anthropic is expected to officially launch its IPO roadshow as early as the week of November 9, with trading potentially beginning before U.S. Thanksgiving and a listing expected by the end of the year at the latest. Other major investors in the company include Alphabet, Amazon, Nvidia, and Microsoft.
