BlockBeats news, October 20 - Mastercard announced on Monday at the Money20/20 USA conference the official launch of a risk intelligence service called "Stablecoin Security." This service allows financial institutions to comprehensively assess the risks of stablecoin payments before funds are put on-chain. Through API interfaces, Mastercard will provide risk scores to banks so they can seamlessly integrate them into existing fraud prevention and compliance systems.
According to Mastercard, the service tracks the source of funds throughout the entire lifecycle of stablecoin payments, investigates their connections to financial crime risks such as fraud, scams, and sanctions violations, and conducts in-depth analysis of transaction context before providing a risk score. Mastercard cited research from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) noting that of the 593 million stablecoin transfer events observed in 2025, nearly 60% occurred in complex multi-step transactions rather than simple peer-to-peer payments, highlighting the necessity of pre-transaction security assessments. Ann Johnson, Executive Vice President of Mastercard's Security Solutions, stated that stablecoins are creating new possibilities for value exchange, but financial institutions need the right intelligence and controls to participate with confidence.
