BlockBeats news, October 17: U.S. President Trump posted on his social media that during his administration, the S&P 500 surged from 5,881 points in December 2024 to 7,651 points in September 2026, a cumulative increase of about 30%. Trump also captioned it: "Strongest in history!"
However, recent AI trading risks have gradually crushed U.S. stocks. U.S. stocks fell across the board on Friday, with doubts about AI investment returns compounded by soaring international oil prices, causing tech stocks to be sold off again. The Nasdaq Composite Index closed down 2.15%, the Nasdaq 100 Index fell 2.5%, and the S&P 500 Index fell 1.1%. The Nasdaq fell 4.48% for the week, while the Dow rose 0.68%, marking the largest weekly performance gap between the two since July 2002. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell for the eighth consecutive trading day, the longest losing streak since 2008.
Earlier today, Trump made latest remarks on the Russia-Ukraine and Middle East issues: "I know some details about the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and at some point I will disclose them. I want it to end. The Biden administration did a lot of bad things on the Ukraine issue." When asked about inflation, Trump again claimed: "Oil prices will fall soon. Israel has been very helpful to Saudi Arabia, and the Abraham Accords are once again an issue for Saudi Arabia."
