Nvidia and Anthropic both missed out, Amazon in talks to acquire Decart for $7 billion

Beating AI News Flash: The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, reports that Amazon is in talks to acquire AI startup Decart. The potential deal values the company at approximately $7 billion and has not yet been finalized. Decart focuses on AI chip optimization software that enables models to run faster and more cost-effectively across different chips. Its technology covers Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs, and Amazon Trainium.

Founded in 2023, the company's acquisition rumors have taken several twists and turns. In August, Israeli media outlet Calcalist reported that Nvidia had been close to acquiring Decart. Other buyers then stepped in, and negotiations were suspended. Elon Musk's SpaceX was also speculated to be a potential buyer, but no reliable reports confirmed a formal bid.

Subsequently, Anthropic considered acquiring Decart for approximately $6 billion and conducted due diligence. But by September, Anthropic decided to withdraw, for reasons that have not been made public. Now Amazon has taken up the negotiations, with the potential deal price exceeding Decart's approximately $4 billion funding valuation in May.

Amazon and Decart have a history of collaboration. In May, Decart announced that Amazon was already its strategic customer. The two parties have already run the real-time video model Lucy 2 on Amazon's self-developed Trainium3 chips. Decart has also developed Oasis, which can generate interactive virtual scenes. If the acquisition goes through, Amazon would also gain access to Decart's cross-chip optimization technology.
