Beating AI News Flash: OpenAI Head of Product and Platform Thibault Sottiaux announced Day 7 of the 28-day product sprint. The default context for GPT-6.1 Sol in Codex and ChatGPT Work has been increased from 272,000 tokens to 500,000, a roughly 80% increase. A larger window can reduce the number of automatic context compressions during long tasks, allowing the model to retain more prior conversation and task details.
Sottiaux said this default value underwent dedicated testing. Users can still adjust it higher or lower on their own, with support for up to 1 million tokens. The model previously already supported manually setting a larger context; this time, it is the default value that has been increased.
At the same time, OpenAI will no longer charge a long-context surcharge for GPT-6.1 Sol usage under ChatGPT subscription quotas.
