BlockBeats news, October 9 — According to US media reports, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the Trump administration is escalating its "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran into an "absolute isolation" operation, which, in addition to financial sanctions, will further restrict Iran's access to international markets, transportation networks, and financial resources through maritime blockades, restrictions on air transport, and cutting off overland routes.
Bessent revealed in an interview on Thursday at the Newsmax NPolicy summit in Washington that the US government "may seize approximately $1 billion in crypto assets this week," and said authorities have already located the relevant assets and are taking measures to isolate them.
Bessent also stated that the US is cooperating with the UAE and Oman, and coordinating with Pakistan and Turkey, in an attempt to cut off Iran's overland transportation routes. He said the government's goal is to completely block Iran's oil exports and restrict international travel by Iranian officials and individuals affiliated with the regime.
Currently, the report did not disclose the specific cryptocurrencies, wallet addresses, executing agencies, or legal basis involved in this crypto asset seizure operation, and it remains unclear whether the relevant actions have been formally implemented.
