Beating AI News Flash: Shi Yang, former head of ByteDance's AI programming tool TRAE, is reported to have left his position before the National Day holiday. Sources say he plans to co-found a startup with Fu Yue (Yuyi), ByteDance's former head of AI data and security, focusing on AI office solutions. The project is said to have completed its first round of funding at a valuation of approximately $200 million. Currently, the company name, funding amount, and investors have not been disclosed.
Shi Yang's LinkedIn profile shows that his tenure at ByteDance ended in September, and he has listed his new role as a stealth-mode startup project. He joined ByteDance in 2024, where he was responsible for Doubao MarsCode and later TRAE. Previously, he founded Yufu Technology, an enterprise identity management company, which was later acquired by Tencent. Fu Yue was responsible for ByteDance's AI training data business and was reported to have left in August.
This departure news comes as ByteDance is consolidating its AI office business. In August, the TRAE and Coze teams were merged into the Doubao system, with the relevant product teams now reporting to Zhao Qi, the head of Doubao. On October 9, TRAE announced the merger of TraeWork and TraeCode into a single product.
