ByteDance's TRAE merges two AI tools, TraeWork to shut down on October 23.

Beating AI News Flash: ByteDance announced the official merger of its AI office tool TraeWork and coding tool TraeCode, upgrading them into the all-new TRAE. The two originally separate clients will be unified into a single entry point, offering both Agent and IDE modes. The former is responsible for letting AI automatically drive tasks forward, while the latter retains full code editing and debugging capabilities.

The new Agent mode supports managing multiple projects simultaneously, orchestrating multiple AI agents to work in parallel, and can also connect to SSH remote development environments. Users can have AI start from requirements analysis and complete page design, code writing, testing, and delivery. When they need to modify code themselves, they can switch to the IDE at any time. The original scheduled tasks, template library, and office capabilities will also be integrated, supporting collaboration across desktop, web, and mobile.

Officials said that after the upgrade, chat history, account information, local data, login status, and commercial credits will be automatically migrated. TraeWork users need to manually initiate the upgrade in the client, while TraeCode users will receive automatic updates. Official documentation also clearly states that TraeWork will cease service on October 23, and users who have not upgraded by then will no longer be able to continue using it.

However, some developers have already expressed dissatisfaction with the new version. Users in the official TRAE community have reported that after upgrading, the software defaults to the Agent workspace, the previously commonly used IDE mode requires manual switching, and for now there is no option to change the default startup mode.
