Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade activates on testnet, block Gas limit raised to approximately 200 million

BlockBeats news, October 9: Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade is currently running on public testnets, with its transaction processing budget increased to more than triple its previous level. Developers are testing related improvements aimed at providing more space for the Ethereum blockchain to handle more payment and transaction activity.

The upgrade was activated on the Sepolia testnet on Tuesday. Developers typically first test software on testnets using tokens with no real value before deploying it to the Ethereum mainnet. As of early Thursday, the Gas limit for blocks on the Sepolia testnet had been raised to about 200 million, compared with about 60 million before the upgrade. Gas is used to measure the computational work required to process transactions.

On the Ethereum mainnet, when transaction volume is too large, users must compete for limited block space, driving up transaction fees. Increasing block processing capacity is expected to accommodate more transaction activity before network congestion intensifies, easing the pressure brought by growing transaction demand.
