BlockBeats news, October 8 — According to Bloomberg, people familiar with the matter revealed that Tencent Holdings is considering issuing up to $5 billion in offshore bonds, joining a wave of debt financing by technology companies to meet AI demands. The bonds may be denominated in US dollars and offshore yuan, with the issuance potentially taking place as early as this month.
The move comes as global tech giants take on massive debt for AI infrastructure. Previously, Google parent Alphabet issued $25 billion in US dollar bonds and debuted Australian dollar bonds, while Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon are also expected to follow with equity or convertible bond financing; Morgan Stanley predicts that global AI-related bond issuance will approach $570 billion in 2026, more than double last year's level.
