BlockBeats news, October 8 — The Ethereum Glamsterdam upgrade was activated on the Sepolia testnet this Tuesday, raising the block Gas limit from approximately 60 million to nearly 200 million, increasing processing capacity budget by more than 3x, as developers use it to test network scaling-related changes.
CoinDesk's observation of more than 25 consecutive test blocks showed that actual Gas usage was approximately 52 million to 92 million, accounting for only 26% to 46% of the available limit, with no near-full blocks observed yet. Separately, according to data from the testing team ethPandaOps, during a 6-minute voting period early Thursday, all 32 planned blocks were successfully proposed, and 99.97% of eligible testnet staking share voted in support of finalization.
Glamsterdam also adjusts the Gas costs of certain operations and optimizes transaction execution and data reading mechanisms, giving validators more time to check transaction computations while allowing software to prefetch accounts and storage data involved in transactions to improve parallel processing capability.
The next testnet, Hoodi, is tentatively scheduled to launch on October 27, with the specific timing depending on Sepolia test results. Currently, a date for the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Ethereum mainnet has not yet been determined.
