BlockBeats news, October 7 — Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz posted that Abstract is gradually shutting down, and parent company Igloo Inc. will from today shift all its focus to the development of Pudgy Penguins, Pudgy NFTs, and PENGU. He said Igloo had continued to fund Abstract for the past 18 months, accumulating tens of millions of dollars in losses over two years, but the project still had not found product-market fit (PMF).
Netz said Abstract had at one point processed more than 300 million on-chain transactions, launched Portal and AGW, attracted multiple global brands, and built an active on-chain ecosystem, but issues such as an insufficient DeFi ecosystem, limited liquidity, low institutional participation, and high costs continued to constrain growth. Combined with declining market demand for related products, the company ultimately could no longer divert funds from the Pudgy Penguins business to support Abstract.
Netz said that even though the company had lost eight figures in dollars, Igloo still chose not to raise funds for Abstract through a token issuance or ICO because it did not have enough confidence to prove sustained demand for a token. He also thanked the Abstract community and said that as the project winds down, the company will fully push to make Pudgy Penguins a global cultural phenomenon.
