BlockBeats news, October 6 — Aptos Labs announced the launch of MonoMove, the largest proposed upgrade in the history of the Aptos blockchain execution engine.
The company said internal testing shows the new engine can run smart contracts up to 55 times faster than the existing system, and its performance is now among the fastest in production blockchain environments. Smart contracts are software running on a blockchain that automatically execute operations such as trade matching, collateral transfers, and payment processing when specific conditions are met. Financial operations running on-chain ultimately need to be executed through smart contracts, so the speed of the engines executing these contracts directly determines the scale of activity a blockchain network can support.
Aptos Labs said that on Decibel, the fully on-chain trading platform it incubated, collateral withdrawal speeds are up to 55 times faster than with the existing engine, and order placement speeds are up to 22 times faster.
