Aave founder Stani criticizes European regulators for restricting DeFi access: may harm open financial networks.

BlockBeats news, October 2 — Aave founder Stani Kulechov posted that he is disappointed with the responses of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Banking Authority (EBA) to the MiCA consultation. He pointed out that the relevant institutions not only advocate banning yield payments on stablecoins, but also recommend restricting crypto asset service providers (CASPs) from providing users with access to DeFi, including yield protocols involving stablecoins not authorized under MiCA, without clearly explaining the actual enforcement framework.

Stani also mentioned that the proposals suggest limiting the group of users who can access DeFi through so-called "suitability tests," and considering the introduction of a certification system for DeFi lending protocols. He believes that if regulators decide which protocols are suitable for European users, it could lead DeFi to form more closed ecosystems and weaken the liquidity and network effects of open financial networks. Stani said that excessive restrictions may increase resistance to innovation and slow the development of open, transparent, and auditable financial infrastructure.

He believes that stablecoins, DeFi, and tokenized securities are expected to reduce friction in financial services, improve transparency, and expand channels for users to access financial opportunities, and he called on European regulators to place users and their interests at the core of the regulatory framework. Finally, he said: "DeFi will win in the end."
