Trump Renames AI as SI, Slovenia Sees a Day's Domain Registrations Match a Month's Worth

Beating AI News Flash: After Trump renamed Artificial Intelligence to Super Intelligence, it unexpectedly boosted Slovenia's national domain .si.

On September 22, Trump announced at the United Nations General Assembly that the United States would rename AI to "Super Intelligence (SI)." Coincidentally, .si is Slovenia's national domain, and registrations immediately surged. Throughout August, .si added only about 3,500 new registrations; after Trump's announcement, it added about 3,700 per day on average, with one day surpassing the entire previous month. As of September 29, the total number of .si domains had exceeded 220,000.

Domain speculators clearly placed bets early. Netcraft found that among a batch of .si domains registered through Dynadot between September 19, when Trump began discussing renaming AI, and September 22, when he formally proposed "SI" at the United Nations, about 52% were quickly listed for sale on the secondary market. In the 25 hours after Trump's announcement, new .si registrations even surpassed those of .ai, which had already been popularized by the AI industry for years.

In the past, the AI boom boosted Anguilla's .ai; now Trump's renaming of AI to SI has delivered another wave of domain business to Slovenia.
