BlockBeats news, September 29, according to Bloomberg, Adam Back has long enjoyed a uniquely exalted status in the Bitcoin world. He is a pioneering cryptographer whose work was cited by Satoshi Nakamoto, and he himself has long been rumored to be Bitcoin's mysterious founder.
But as the crypto industry undergoes another major reshuffle, several Bitcoin businesses associated with him are showing mounting pressure. The public-market trading of a Bitcoin treasury company he promoted failed, a Bitcoin mining operation he co-founded is mired in legal disputes, and a $320 million hack targeting a Bitcoin-related blockchain has also hit Adam Back's Blockstream — one of the oldest infrastructure companies in the crypto ecosystem.
The merger between BSTR Holdings, the Bitcoin treasury project he led the promotion of, and a Cantor Fitzgerald-backed SPAC was terminated, and BSTR was required to pay a $15 million breakup fee; Blockstream Mining, the Bitcoin mining business he co-founded and in which he holds a minority stake, after being spun off from Blockstream, has faced multiple lawsuits with partner Exacore, accused of owing equipment payments, electricity bills, and customer deposits, with the related financing scale totaling about $2 billion; at the same time, Liquid Network, the Bitcoin sidechain initiated by Blockstream, was hacked, with about 4,000 BTC stolen, of which 3,400 have been returned, while the hacker still retains about $47 million worth of Bitcoin.
