Cloudflare rebuilds CLI for AI: Agents now account for 48% of usage

Beating AI News Flash: Cloudflare has significantly expanded the `cf` CLI launched in April this year. It has grown from initially supporting only a small number of products to covering all of Cloudflare's 3,000+ API operations, and is preparing to replace the existing Wrangler. By comparison, Wrangler currently has only about 280 command paths.

Many of `cf`'s design choices are directly aimed at Coding Agents. Command results return JSON by default, which Agents such as Claude Code and Codex can read directly. The newly added `cf cli search` also allows Agents to describe what they want to do in natural language and then automatically find the corresponding command, without needing to know in advance which APIs Cloudflare offers.

Cloudflare also disclosed that Agents are already approaching half of Wrangler usage. In March this year, that proportion was about 25%, and in the past week it rose to 48%. Agents use nearly twice as many different commands on average as humans, and are nearly 4 times as likely to execute more than 6 commands.

The configuration method has also changed. `cf` now uses the TypeScript-format `cloudflare.config.ts`, allowing Agents to directly use type checking and code completion to discover configuration errors. Existing projects can be migrated via `cf migrate`, but some JavaScript projects that depend on the Wrangler build process, as well as Rust and Python Workers, are still currently handled by Wrangler.

Cloudflare plans to release the last major version of Wrangler after `cf` stabilizes, and then continue maintaining it for 18 months.
