DeepSeek and Moonshot AI Invited to Address UN Security Council on AI Risks

DeepSeek is expected to brief the Security Council this week, and founder Liang Wenfeng does not plan to attend. Moonshot AI has also received an invitation to speak but has not yet confirmed whether it will participate.

The meeting will discuss the risks AI poses to international security. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman plans to attend and speak, and Anthropic is also expected to send a senior representative. The UN Security Council formally discussed AI risks for the first time in 2023, when China warned that AI should not become a "runaway horse," while the United States warned against using AI to censor or suppress the public.

The meeting comes as discussions between China and the United States over AI safety are heating up. Several U.S. AI companies have recently called for coordinated efforts to slow the development of frontier AI, while Chinese state media has criticized such arguments as potentially being used to restrict China's participation in global AI competition.
