BlockBeats news, September 18: Binance stated it will still seek authorization under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that a vice chairman of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) had informed Binance that European Central Bank President Lagarde requested the Greek Prime Minister not to approve Binance's license application. According to the report, Greek officials had informed the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) in early June that the regulator planned to approve the application.
A Binance spokesperson said: "We do not comment on speculation. In Europe, Binance remains committed to operating in a long-term, compliant manner and adhering to the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation."
