BlockBeats news, September 16: On-chain financial platform Theo has launched yield-bearing tokenized silver product thSLVR, securing over $40 million in initial silver leasing commitments. The product enables holders to retain exposure to silver prices while earning leasing income generated by lending the underlying silver to institutional borrowers.
Theo stated that thSLVR's underlying silver will be leased to established institutional counterparties under standard market terms, with the related credit exposure guaranteed by the borrowers' parent companies. thSLVR will initially be available in beta to institutions and whitelisted investors, with plans to expand access in the future.
Citing data, Theo noted that approximately 83% of silver in London vaults is locked up in physically backed investment products, leaving about 136 million ounces available for trading and leasing. The market expects a sixth consecutive annual supply deficit in 2026, projected at approximately 46.3 million ounces. thSLVR will also expand the range of underlying supporting assets for Theo's yield-bearing stablecoin thUSD.
