Zcash holders near-unanimously support shortening block times and maintaining the halving mechanism.

BlockBeats news, September 16: The governance vote for Zcash's next major network upgrade, NU7, has concluded, with nearly 2.4 million ZEC participating, accounting for about two-thirds of the eligible ZEC at the time of the snapshot. Of this, 99.9% of ZEC supported shortening the block generation time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, and 98.9% supported maintaining the existing Bitcoin-style halving mechanism. In addition, 96.6% of ZEC supported delaying the ZEC collected by the Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM) until February 2031 for reissuance; 99.3% of ZEC supported advancing NU7 as soon as possible and removing features not completed before the September 30 preparation deadline.

This vote used a privacy-preserving mechanism, and only ZEC held in the Ironwood shielded pool was eligible to participate. The voting results were calculated by the amount of ZEC, with ballots encrypted and split before tallying, and participants' holding sizes and identities will not be made public together with their voting choices. The results of this vote provide a clearer direction for the scope of the NU7 upgrade, but the vote itself will not directly change the Zcash network; the relevant features still need to be developed, tested, and ultimately included in the upgrade.
