Trump: US must maintain AI leadership, downplays calls to slow AI development

BlockBeats news, September 14 - According to foreign media reports, U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday appeared to dismiss calls from several top AI executives to slow down the development of AI models.

Speaking during an interview at the Irish Open golf tournament, Trump said: "We are the most advanced nation in the world, and frankly, I want to keep it that way. Whoever wins AI wins everything."

On Saturday, three of the most influential leaders in the AI industry — Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and xAI founder Elon Musk — jointly supported slowing the pace of AI model capability advancement. Trump said: "I think there are a lot of negative forces pushing something that shouldn't even be brought up. They're proposing things that simply won't happen."
