BlockBeats news, September 12: Cross-chain liquidity protocol Symbiosis stated that around 04:28 UTC on September 11, its Bitcoin bridge was attacked, with the attacker exploiting a vulnerability to carry out the attack. BTC-related routes have currently been suspended.
Symbiosis said the incident only affected the Bitcoin Bridge, and the relevant system has been isolated from other components. Other cross-chain routes such as EVM chains, TRON, and TON, as well as Octopools, were unaffected and continue to operate normally. The team has currently recovered about 15 BTC and deposited them into a multisig wallet controlled by the team.
Regarding the stolen funds, Symbiosis has offered the attacker a 20% white-hat bounty, with a deadline of September 13. If the attacker does not return the funds, the same percentage bounty will thereafter be offered to relevant parties who can assist in recovering the funds. The final loss amount is still being calculated, and affected liquidity providers will be contacted one by one by the team, with a compensation plan to be formulated.
In addition, according to records from on-chain security monitoring agencies, the incident involved abnormal minting of syBTC by Symbiosis BridgeV2 and caused a loss of approximately $336,000 in WBTC, and the relevant vulnerability is being addressed.
