Blockstream Refuses to Pay Ransom: Stolen Bitcoin from Liquid Will Be Tracked and Recovered Through Legal Channels

BlockBeats news, September 12: Blockstream issued a statement regarding the recent theft of Bitcoin on the Liquid Network, stating it will not pay a ransom to recover the stolen funds and refuses to regard the unauthorized transfer of assets as a "white hat disclosure."

Blockstream said it has engaged in good-faith communication with the relevant parties in hopes of recovering users' stolen funds, but will not accept the ransom conditions proposed by the other side, nor will it set a precedent requiring open-source software developers to pay exorbitant ransoms.

Blockstream stated it remains willing to resolve the issue through responsible means; if the stolen Bitcoin cannot be returned, the company will work with law enforcement agencies, trading platforms, service providers, and blockchain forensics experts to track and recover the relevant assets, while also investigating those responsible.

Blockstream emphasized that Bitcoin transactions are publicly traceable, and the flow of funds and on-chain evidence will not disappear. The company said: "We will not pay a ransom for the return of stolen assets, nor will we abandon our users."

Previously, Blockstream had issued a security reminder about the incident, warning that scammers impersonating Liquid and Blockstream are exploiting the incident to induce users into transferring funds or providing mnemonic phrases, and stressing that the official team will never ask users to send funds to so-called "recovery addresses."
