BlockBeats news, September 11, according to CNN, FTX founder SBF filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday, seeking a new trial and the reversal of a court order to forfeit $11 billion in assets.
SBF was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2024. Prosecutors said he directed the transfer of billions of dollars from the cryptocurrency exchange FTX to his controlled hedge fund Alameda Research, and these funds were subsequently used for high-risk investments, political donations, and personal spending.
The appeal filed with the Supreme Court primarily concerns a technical legal issue regarding evidence submitted at trial, and whether SBF should be allowed to prove that his investments were ultimately profitable and sufficient to cover the losses suffered by FTX customers.
In addition, he argued that the $11 billion asset forfeiture violates the Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits excessive fines.
