BlockBeats News, September 9 - According to the Wall Street Journal, U.S. officials revealed that the U.S. military launched a new round of strikes on Iranian oil tankers on Tuesday, directly in response to recent attacks by Tehran against U.S. warships in the Middle East region.
The U.S. claims its forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil transport vessels. Previously, Iran's Revolutionary Guard had launched two ballistic missile attacks against a U.S. Navy warship over the past two days. The U.S. warship successfully evaded the Iranian attacks and continued its patrol missions in regional waters. No U.S. personnel were injured.
Iran has also stated that in response to U.S. strikes on multiple Iranian oil tankers, it will issue warnings to all tankers docked at Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports and anchorages, demanding that relevant crew members immediately evacuate the vessels, and stating that these ships will become targets of attack.
In subsequent retaliatory actions, Iranian missiles struck U.S. targets within Jordan. Jordan stated that Iran launched 20 ballistic missiles at its territory.
Affected by this series of events, Brent crude oil futures rose to their highest level since late July on Tuesday, settling near $98 per barrel that day, and briefly approaching the $100 mark during trading. WTI crude oil futures closed near $93 per barrel, the highest level since early June.
